Award-Winning Martinique Rhum Makes first trip stateside

Trois Rivières, a centuries-old rhum agricole from the Caribbean isle of Martinique, is available here for the first time, launched nationally by Houston-based importer BCI. Trois Rivières VSOP Réserve Spéciale, most recently took home the 2018 Rum Trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. As rhum agricole, unlike common industrial rums, Trois Rivières uses freshly pressed juice from estate-grown sugar cane, without molasses or supplemental flavoring. The rhums spend three years or more in oak casks, and leverage the warm climate to create a finished spirit comparable to a much older whiskey or Cognac.

Trois Rivières in "Modern Distillery Age" Blog

Importer BCI has released Trois Rivières Rhum Agricoles from Martinique in the U.S. for the first time. Awarded the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) in 1996, a protected domination of origin currently reserved for only a handful of municipalities in Martinique, Trois Rivières produces a variety of aged and unaged rhum agricoles including Blanc, Ambré, Cuvée du Moulin, VSOP Réserve Spéciale and its flagship Cuvèe de L’Ocèan, a blanc agricole made from cane grown in shallow sea water on a single plot of land. Martinique’s oldest plantation, founded in 1660, Trois Rivières gets its name from the three rivers — the Bois d’Inde, Oman and St. Pierre — which border the 1,700 acres of magnesium-rich clay soil land overlooking the Caribbean. The rums are distilled in a single, 22-level copper column still, and they all age for a minimum of three years in oak casks.
